What size beaded collar should I buy for my dog's breed?
Should I size up if my dog is between sizes?
If your dog's measurement falls between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size to ensure comfort and allow for adjustment. Always refer to the sizing guide before ordering.
How do I measure my dog's neck for a beaded collar?
Use a soft tape measure around the widest part of your dog's neck where the collar will sit. Measure snugly but allow enough room to comfortably fit two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck. Then select the appropriate collar size from our sizing guide.
Are the beaded collars adjustable?
es. The collars feature traditional buckle fastenings with multiple adjustment holes, allowing you to achieve a secure and comfortable fit
Are beaded dog collars suitable for everyday use?
Yes. Our Maasai beaded collars are handcrafted using high-quality, hard-wearing leather, making them practical enough for everyday wear while remaining beautifully decorative.
Are the collars waterproof?
As with all leather products, water especially sea water is not it’s friend and we always recommend removing the collar if you plan to let your dog go into the sea or river. If the collar does get wet carefully dried and treat with a leather conditioner after immersion.
Are the beads securely attached to the collars and leads?
Yes. The beads are hand-sewn in individual rows onto the first layer of leather. A second layer of leather is then glued and stitched to the back, helping protect the beadwork while increasing durability and comfort.
Are the collars strong enough for larger dogs?
Yes. We offer collars specifically designed for larger breeds, including wide and extra-wide options. Each collar uses hard-wearing leather and hand-cast buckles and clasps for strength and durability.
What materials are used to make the collars and leads?
Every Maasai collar is handcrafted from premium leather and finished with hand-cast buckles and clasps. The decorative beadwork is sewn by skilled Maasai artisans using traditional techniques. All products are sourced locally in Kenya.
Are the collars comfortable for dogs?
Yes. The collars feature a second layer of leather on the inside, which provides additional softness against your dog's neck while improving durability.
What makes Maasai beaded collars special?
The beadwork is inspired by traditional Maasai culture, where colours and patterns have long been used to tell stories and mark important life events. Each collar is individually handcrafted, making every piece unique.
Will my collar look exactly like the product photo?
Because each collar is handmade by Maasai women artisans, slight variations in bead patterns and design are to be expected. This individuality is part of the charm and authenticity of the collection.
Can I attach an ID tag and lead?
Yes. The collars are manufactured with a brass ring suitable for attaching leads and identification tags.
How should I care for my beaded leather dog collar?
We recommend wiping the collar clean with a damp cloth and allowing it to dry naturally. As with all quality leather products, avoiding prolonged exposure to water will help maintain its appearance and longevity.
Are these dog collars handmade?
Yes. Every collar is individually handcrafted by Maasai women artisans. Each piece takes approximately a day to create, ensuring exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Why are handmade beaded collars more expensive than standard collars?
Handmade collars require significantly more time and skill than mass-produced alternatives. Each collar is crafted from quality leather, hand-sewn beadwork and hand-cast hardware, resulting in a durable, unique and artisan-made product.
Do matching leads and accessories exist?
Yes. Matching beaded leads and accessories are available within the Maasai Collection, allowing you to create a coordinated look both for your dog and yourself.
